Why Is Millstone Hill So Unique?

1. Amazing scenery

The 50 historic quarry sites with their water filled abandoned quarries and evocative quarry ruins provide some of the most unique scenery in Vermont. The dozen or so rock pile lookouts, surprisingly accessible, provide amazing scenic vistas, at times extending almost 75 miles.

2. Exceptional trails

Ranked the #2 Mountain Biking network in New England by the Boston Globe in 2009 and one of the ten best new recreation centers in the country by Bike Magazine, our 60 miles of well signed and maintained single track trails offer choices for bikers at every skill level.

3. Combines History with a great outdoor experience

A day at Millstone Hill will not only be fun, it will be a learning experience as well. We have already installed historic interpretive signs in a few locations and hope to put up a total of 36 in the next year to create a one of a kind Recreational and Cultural Heritage Trail Network. Where else can you enjoy great trails and world class scenery as you learn about one of the most colorful periods of Vermont’s cultural and industrial development.

4. Technically Challenging

Our single-track trails are considered some of the most interesting and technically challenging mountain biking trails in Vermont. For that edgier Mountain Biking experience, head on over to Millstone Hill.

5. Vermont’s driest trail network

We have the driest trails in Vermont. In 2009 when almost every other trail network in Vermont was closed due to several weeks of rain, Millstone Hill never closed a single trail. When in doubt, head to Millstone Hill.

6. Naturally air conditioned trails

NO KIDDING! We have natural air conditioning at Millstone Hill. The north side of the grout piles retain ice and snow through most of the summer, resulting in temperatures falling almost 20 degrees in many places. These cool spots are marked on our map. Millstone Hill is the obvious choice on a hot summer day.

7. No crowds

At Millstone Hill you feel like you have the trail network to yourself.  Our 90 miles of trails are hardly worn and unusually ridable. Get yourself to Millstone Hill now while you can still get this unique experience because its just a matter of time before the throng of bikers invade our trails as they have our sister center to the north.

8. Great trails for biking, walking, hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing

Our multi-use design of trail network allows for biking, walking and hiking in the summer or snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
