Millstone Hill continues to expand its trail network!

We are already working on a large expansion area of new trails in the Abbott’s Run area of our network, and by summers end expect to have another five miles of new trails open for riding.

We have been working with Hans Jenny at The Fellowship of the Wheel again this year, in mapping out this expansion. Watch for a significant new expert trail, even more exciting than last year’s new Fellowship Ring, and several miles of moderate trails with an emphasis on flow. We will have an amazing new mile-long, all-downhill trail connecting the Grand Lookout to the beginning of Abbott’s Run open by the first of June.

Touring Center to move to New Location

At the end of June our Touring Center will relocate to a wonderful historic general store building in Websterville.

This new welcome center and collection of shops will be situated in the middle or our trail network, once we complete our trail expansion. Watch for the opening of the shops, which will include our own bike shop, The Vermont Granite Museum at Millstone Hill, The Vermont Flannel Company as well as a collaborative collection of Vermont Artists and Vermont food products.

Until the end of June, please continue to start your visit to Millstone Hill with a stop at the Red Barn at 422 Websterville Rd in East Barre.

An ending and a beginning

Even though it is snowing as I write this, and I’m still hoping for another blizzard, I know what April means. It’s time to rake leaves, wash windows and dust off our bikes. This spring especially, there are plenty of reasons to look forward to mountain biking 2009 at Millstone Hill. The touring center is moving about a mile up the hill to Church Hill Rd. in Websterville. In addition to being much more centrally located, it will also be expanded to include a part-time bike repair shop.

Looking for some new trails to ride? Lots of planning was done last fall and crews will be out in the woods as soon as it’s dry enough to work. Our trails drain quickly, and as usual we are shooting to be open by the first week of May.

So good-bye to a great winter, and welcome spring!

Trail Work Day Sunday June 24th

Just a reminder that we will be having another trail work day on Sunday, June 24th @8:00am. We will meet at the Touring Center. Remember that you can earn free trail day passes by helping out on this trail day. Hope to see you there Sunday!

Summer Season Opening May 5th

We are scheduled to be reopening for the summer season on Saturday May 5th. We still have a bit of snow melting up there, but we hope to have a good amount of the trail network open. We ask that you do keep off the wet sections of trail until they have dried out and are ready to go. The Touring Center will be open all of next weekend and you will be able to consult with us as to what are the driest routes to ride. Please check the website for trail updates and conditions as we will be out all week getting the trails ready.
